HAPPY 25th ANNIVERSARY BOMA SILICON VALLEY

This is BOMA Silicon Valley’s 25th Anniversary. We are very fortunate that our members and leaders have always been dedicated to the success of this organization. We will be holding a 25th anniversary party on October 2, 2008, so save the date!

Speaking of successful events, Associates Night was another sell out and a great time for catching up with everyone. The food and wine were wonderful. The booths and tables were full of information and we had a variety of service partners participating. Brian Michael and his committee once again did an outstanding job!

HAPPY 20th ANNIVERSARY BOMA CALIFORNIA

This may turn out to be a golf year for us. May 22nd is the annual Golf Clinic; June 2nd is the Sherri Dunn Memorial Golf Tournament and later this year, in the fall, it looks like we may be joining BOMA San Francisco for a joint golf tournament in celebration of BOMA California’s 20th anniversary. This golf tournament will be to raise money for the Political Action Committee (PAC). Since the tournament may be shared by two local associations it will be important to register as a BOMA Silicon Valley member for us to get credit for the donation to the PAC. Details will follow but please keep this in mind.

BOMA California consists of the eight local BOMA associations in California, BOMA Silicon Valley, BOMA Sacramento, BOMA San Francisco, BOMA Oakland-East Bay, BOMA Greater LA, BOMA Inland Empire, BOMA Orange County and BOMA San Diego. BOMA California’s main focus is on California legislation, regulations and codes that impact commercial real estate in the state.

Last year BOMA California saved BOMA members $23 million within the PG&E service territory by winning a 9% rate reduction. This could be a $43 million dollar cost savings in the next three years to large commercial customers in the PG&E service territory. BOMA California continues its advocacy efforts fighting for rate parity across the state, direct access, resisting critical peak pricing and mandatory demand response programs.

However, many of BOMA California’s successes BOMA members never see. This is the legislation that is either stopped completely or amended so that it is it is at least palatable for owners and managers of commercial real estate in California.

We have many other events this year so please remember to check the Calendar of Events.

Sheryn Cockett, President
