THE BAY AREA COMMUTER BENEFITS PROGRAM

The Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program (Program) requires employers with 50 or more full-time employees within the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) jurisdiction to register and offer commuter benefits to their employees.  The goal of the program is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion by using the federal tax code 132(f) to encourage employees to adopt alternatives to driving alone.

The program is designed to provide flexibility for employers, minimize administrative and reporting requirements, and does not require the employer to achieve a performance target or ask employees to change commute mode.  Employers may select one or more commuter benefit options to offer to their employees. Registering your company only takes a few minutes so get started today!  If you have questions, dial 511 and say “Commuter Benefits” or send us a note at commuterbenefits@511.org.
