Real Property Agent II/III

The County of San Mateo is seeking a Real Property Agent II/III to join the Real Property Division of the County Manager's Office. The Real Property Division serves County departments and other agencies by acquiring real property and managing the County's leased space needs. The Division defines facility needs, identifies appropriate alternatives, negotiates acquisition agreements and leases on competitive terms, and administers agreements throughout the term of the lease. Additionally, the Division provides right-of-way acquisition services and real property expertise. The County's real property interests include a hospital and medical facilities, office campuses, correctional facilities, airports, and over 16,000 acres of parks and open space, in addition to public works facilities, rights of way and public service easements. 

The Real Property Agent II/III will perform a full range of real property services which are rendered in connection with the acquisition, disposition or lease of properties for highways, parks, libraries, airports, flood control projects, rights of ingress and egress, easement rights, building sites, office space or other County purposes, including appraisal, negotiations, property management and relocation assistance. The Real Property Agent II is the journey-level class in the real property agent series. Working under general supervision by the Real Property Assets Division Manager, the employee hired at the "II" level will be expected to successfully complete complex assignments.

The Real Property Agent III is the advanced, journey level-class within the real property agent series. Employees hired at the "III" level will be responsible for coordinating major projects, appraising and negotiating for larger, more complex purchases, and negotiating more complex leases of property for County use.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. At the "II" level, one year of experience appraising or negotiating for the acquisition of real property for public use is qualifying. At the "III" level, at least three years of experience appraising and/or valuing and negotiating for the acquisition and/or lease of real property is qualifying. Right-of-Way Certification or the desire and ability to obtain certification are preferred, but not required. Experience with property management is also preferred.
