Sherie Dunn Scholarship Program

The Sherie Dunn scholarship was established in loving memory of our founding president. Two scholarships, for one class each, will be awarded annually to deserving individuals desirous of attaining a designation certificate.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 24, 2010

Who is Eligible?

  • Members of BOMA Silicon Valley or employees of a BOMA Silicon Valley Principal member company.
  • Individuals with a minimum of one-year experience in property management or systems maintenance.
  • Self-supporting students (not receiving tuition reimbursement). However, if employer pays a portion, application may be made for the balance.
  • One scholarship awarded per individual per calendar year.

How to Apply

  • Submit a completed Scholarship Application.
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from employer.
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from any of the following:
    • BOMA Board Member.
    • Person who has achieved RPA, FMA, or SMA designation.
    • Community leader (religious, community project officer or director of non-profit real estate or civic association).
  • Submit a brief personal letter describing applicants’ professional background and involvement in BOMA or other professional or civic organizations, why applicant is seeking a designation, and why applicant is applying for the scholarship.
  • Application may be mailed to BOMA SV, 63 Metro Drive, San Jose, CA 96110 or faxed to 408-453-7221 or emailed to bob@boma-sv.org.

Recipient Requirements

  • Classes must be taken in classroom if classroom option is available that year.
  • Scholarship will be paid directly to BOMI on behalf of recipient.
  • Must be willing for BOMA to contact employer and/or references regarding verification of submission.
  • Recipient will be awarded up to 2 BOMI sanctioned courses leading to the FMA, RPA or SMA designation, which must be taken in one calendar year (Jan. – Dec.).
  • The Scholarship is exclusive of any and all other fees, including designation enrollment, etc.

How the Selection is made
The following will be evaluated by Education Committee in awarding the scholarship:

  • Desire to achieve RPA, SMA or FMA professional designation as explained in the personal letter.
  • Financial need of the participant as explained in the personal letter.
  • Participation in BOMA or other related organizations.
  • Civic participation.
  • Two letters of recommendation (One from current employer and one related to either professional or community involvement).

2009 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

The Board of Directors of BOMA-SV is pleased to announce the first recipients of the newly established Sherie Dunn Scholarships. The scholarships were funded from monies raised at the annual Sherie Dunn Memorial Golf Tournament. Michelle Lajom and Nichole Le are the very deserving winners of the 2009 scholarships which will allow them to continue their education in commercial real estate working towards completion of their RPA’s.
