SLRP:  Committee Goals

ASSOCIATES COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The BOMA Associates Committee mission is to meet on a monthly basis providing communication and information to its members. To assist, inform and mentor new members in learning about the BOMA Organization, its Principal members and its events.

Continuing Committee Goals:

  1. Explore ways to encourage new Associate members to become active within
    BOMA and active on various committees.
  2. Continue to explore and encourage having Principal members attend Associate meetings by invitation.
  3. Explore ways to encourage Principal members to use Associate members as vendors.
  4. Continue to encourage at least one Board member to attend Associates meeting each quarter.

Specific Goals for 2004-2005:

  • Goal: Offer more advertising opportunities for the Associates Newsletter
  • Goal: Explore ways for the Associates to receive better recognition for their efforts.
  • Goal: Receive list of new members and personally invite them to attend meetings.
  • Goal: Assist Vendors in “best practices” to successfully market BOMA members.
  • Goal: Partner with Membership Committee to orientate new members to BOMA

Comments:
This year in addition to the Continuing Committee Goals we are investigating ways to increase the value for Associate Membership in BOMA through recognition and education.

ASSOCIATES NIGHT COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The Associates Night Committee mission is to present an annual event to showcase and promote BOMA Silicon Valley’s Associate Members goods and services in a tradeshow like atmosphere and raise capital for BOMA Silicon Valley.

Specific Goals for 2004:

  • Goal: Research and locate a venue suitable for our event
  • Goal: Organize and promote event through booth sales, sponsorships and ticket sales
  • Goal: Raise $5000.00 in Profit for BOMA Silicon Valley.

Specific Goals for 2005:

  • Goal: Form committee beginning Jan 2005
  • Goal: Research and locate a venue suitable for our event
  • Goal: Identify needs of Associate members to make event a success.
  • Goal: Pick date, organize and promote event through booth sales, sponsorships and
    Ticket sales.
  • Goal: Raise $6500.00 in Profit for BOMA Silicon Valley.

Comments:
The Associates Night Committee was established to host one event per year. However the committee would entertain the possibility of hosting other events if the interest were there.

BUILDING AWARDS COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
To review and report the financial status of the organization to make sure we are being fiscally responsible to our members. To help grow the organization in a prudent manner, taking an overview to all events and committee activities.

Continuing Goals:

  1. Work with BOMA office and CPA to produce monthly variance reports in a timely manner.
  2. Work with BOMA office to develop quarterly forecast and review.

Specific 2004 Goals:

  • Goal: Work with Executive Director and Outside CPA to establish tighter control in office accounting through formal set of policies and procedures by October.
  • Goal: Work with outside CPA to convert chart of accounts to be consistent from the budget to the Quickbooks reports by end of October.

Specific 2005 Goals:
Goal: Work with Executive Board to establish a Sherrie Dunn Scholarship Committee. The committee would develop and implement the criteria and parameters for distributing the scholarship funds for various BOMA activities.

Comments:
At the time of this writing, we do not have a monthly variance report form that is automatically generated through Quickbooks. My hope is that this form will be established prior to the end of my term.

DESIGNATION COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The mission of the Designation Committee is to provide educational opportunities to members and nonmembers through offering the RPA & FMA program courses, along with DRE credits, whenever possible.

Continuing Committee Goals:

  1. To produce multiple classes per year supporting the RPA and FMA programs.
  2. To assess the needs of the student population and assure the programming is meeting the needs of the greatest number.
  3. To improve opportunities for all participants in terms of career planning and increased expertise.
  4. To increase value of the BOMA organization especially to Principal Members, as education is one of the most important things we can give our members.
  5. To increase general membership numbers, as new members are traditionally gained through student memberships.

Specific Goals for 2004:

  • Goal: The Designation committee will be producing a total of five (5) classes – 2
    RPA/FMA courses, 1 RPA only course, 1 FMA only course, and 1 Ethics Seminar.
  • Goal: To bring renewed life and longevity to the RPA and FMA programs, through
    (1) refine and define the processes
    (2) updated programming
    (3) increased marketing
    (4) more involvement of the committee members in all aspects of promoting the programs and ensuring a quality experience for the students

Specific Goals for 2005:

  • Goal: To maintain, and as appropriate, continue to grow the RPA& FMA Programs, through ongoing marketing efforts started in 2004
  • Goal: Implement the refined and defined processes, including marketing standards
  • Goal: Determine future path of FMA Programming after marketing blitz
  • Goal: In 2005, a similar number of courses will be planned, though all courses are subject to maintaining a cost structure that at least breaks even.

Comments:
Measurements of success:
1) Participant Satisfaction is most important – generate repeat customers
2) Through number of students enrolled in or inquiring about the program and it’s offerings
3) Through general feedback from the students, both formally through the end of class surveys and informally through committee member discussions, regarding the value of the course to a students professional needs
4) Number of student memberships generated

EDUCATION COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The mission of the Education Committee is to deliver to the membership pertinent, timely and beneficial seminars and luncheon speakers; promote and generate membership participation in the seminars and luncheons; provide the membership with the fundamentals as well as the latest trends within the industry; solicit and gauge membership feedback; and ultimately, achieve recognition as an essential benefit of BOMA membership.

Continuing Committee Goals:

  1. Strengthen membership interest/attendance in education seminars and monthly luncheons.
  2. Plan new and popular seminars along with interesting luncheon speakers.
  3. Continue, yet modify our successful programs.
  4. Reach out to identify successes in other markets.
  5. Schedule a minimum of four (4) educational seminars; unless it is determined that greater impact will be received by fewer yet larger scale events.
  6. Provide speaker(s) for each BOMA luncheon (except Member Appreciation and Share Your Holiday luncheons).

Specific Goals for 2004:

  • Goal: Recruit new committee members.
  • Goal: Generate new ideas and planning strategies.
  • Goal: Solicit membership feedback through dissemination of survey.
  • Goal: Identify idea-generating resources.
  • Goal: Target and tap into network of industry resources to identify successes in other markets.
  • Goal: Schedule and promote new seminar and luncheon lineup.
  • Goal: Schedule a minimum of four (4) educational seminars; unless it is determined that greater impact will be received by fewer yet larger scale events.
  • Goal: Provide speaker(s) for each BOMA luncheon.
  • Goal: Increase attendance at seminars and luncheons.

Specific Goals for 2005:

  • Goal: Promote new seminar and luncheon lineup.
  • Goal: Perform exit polls to measure success of new seminars and luncheons.
  • Goal: Generate new ideas for pipeline.

Comments:
2004 Measurable committee accomplishments:
Through creative and insightful collaboration, the Committee anticipates implementing a schedule for 2005 that will increase attendance, generate profit, and most importantly, achieve recognition as an essential benefit of BOMA membership.

The Committee’s success in reaching our goals will be measured in the attendance of the seminar and luncheon events, feedback from the membership and profitability.

2005 Measurable committee accomplishments:
We anticipate to carryout a schedule for 2005 that will yield increased attendance, produce favorable feedback from the membership, generate positive cash flow, and achieve recognition as an essential benefit of BOMA membership.

The Committee’s success in reaching our goals will be measured in the attendance of the seminar and luncheon events, feedback from the membership and profitability.

GOLF TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
Establish a first rate, income-generating event to be held at a local golf course that will have high demand amongst all members to attend. A portion of the proceeds each year are to be donated to Sherie Dunn Scholarship Fund and American Cancer Society.

Continuing Committee Goals:

  1. Contribute a minimum cash flow of $20k each year during 2004 – 2006.
  2. Continue to appeal to a diverse audience.
  3. Contribute a portion of the proceeds to Sherie Dunn Scholarship Fund and American Cancer Society.
  4. Early sell out of foursome tickets and sponsorships.

Specific Goals for 2004-2005:

  • Goal: Establish guidelines for using proceeds, including donations to Sherie Dunn Scholarship Fund and American Cancer Society.
  • Goal: Maintain high visibility amongst members year long to encourage early sell out prior to tournament!

Skeeter Chafey, Chair

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The Government Affairs Committee mission is to track, monitor and assist in lobbying public policy affecting the real estate industry. To keep all of the members informed of public policy and to be responsive to member concerns on public policy.

Continuing Committee Goals:

  1. Maintain legislative alert column in the BOMA Newsletter, at a minimum quarterly.
  2. To foster relations with other organizations that have similar public policy interests by interacting with the San Jose Chamber of Commerce, NAIOP and develop new relationships with other professional organizations such as IFMA.
  3. Visit the offices of state and national legislators at least once a year.
  4. Make sure local, state and national politicians are invited to BOMA events.
  5. Attend quarterly BOMA California meetings.

Specific Goals for 2004:

  • Goal: Keep BOMA members updated on status of split roll tax initiative schedule for the November 2004 ballot and keep them informed on avenues to oppose it.
  • Goal: Work with state legislators to amend Section 1950.7 of the California Civil Code to clarify that future damages can be applied to the security deposit.
  • Goal: Work with the state’s Building Standards Commission on replacing NFPA 5000 Building Codes with the International Building Codes.
  • Goal: In November and December 2003, identify key legislative issues for the next year and the positions BOMA Silicon Valley will take on them. This will involve seeking the Board of Directors approval before the positions are made public.

Specific Goals for 2005:

  • Goal: Visit national legislators in Washington D.C. at BOMA Winter Meeting.
  • Goal: Visit state legislators at their offices in Sacramento in March.
  • Goal: In November and December 2004, identify key legislative issues for the next year and the positions BOMA Silicon Valley will take on them. This will involve seeking the Board of Directors approval before the positions are made public.
  • Goal: Have a member of our government affairs committee serve on the Executive Committee of the BOMA California Board.

Comments:
This year we have selected three very specific issues to address in our goals. Although at first glance it may seem our goals are unrealistic please note the following:

On the split roll tax initiative we will be partnering with many other business groups and tax groups to oppose this very unpopular issue. The Governor has also stated that he will campaign against it with us.

On Section 1950.7 of the California Civil Code, the legislator's intent was for Landlord’s to collect future damages, the courts has reinterpreted the law. We do not expect opposition from the legislators.

The NFPA 5000 Building Codes were adopted as a favor to the unions for supporting Gray Davis in the recall election. The International Building Codes were actually favored by more agencies.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The mission of the Membership Committee to procure, promote and retain members.

Continuing Committee Goals:

  1. Communicate BOMA benefits and opportunities to Members.
  2. Collaborate with other committees for synergy and exposure.
  3. Increase participation in BOMA events
  4. Broaden BOMA’s exposure to professions other than Property Management (ie. Owners, Facility Managers, Brokers, etc.).

Specific Goals for 2004-2005:

  • Goal: Hold 1 New Member Orientation and 2 Membership Mixers each year.
  • Goal: Develop mentoring or buddy program for new members.
  • Goal: Add more networking opportunities to existing Members.
  • Goal: Mentor New Members to be active leaders in the organization
  • Goal: Show benefits of Membership to prospective candidates.

Comments:
We will track Membership growth by the number of renewing members, monitor our marketing efforts by the number of New Members and measure Membership satisfaction by the Member survey.

PROGRAMS COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The mission of the Programs Committee is to provide interesting and educational speakers for the luncheons that will generate increased attendance and revenue.

Continuing Committee Goals:

  1. A speaker(s) is hired for every luncheon BOMA puts on throughout the year, with the exception of July Member Appreciation Luncheon and the Share your Holiday Luncheon.
  2. To use the Member Survey for feedback to generate new/renewed interest in the lunch programs for the membership.

Specific Goals for 2004-2005:

  • Goal: Generate interest for new membership.
  • Goal: Generate renewed interest amongst existing members.
  • Goal: Increase attendance at luncheons.

Comments:
The challenge of the Programs Committee is to revitalize the luncheons to increase attendance.

SHARE YOUR HOLIDAY COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The Share Your Holidays Committee mission is to provide funding for the support of the Adopt A Family program through the House of Grace. This program through it’s Holiday theme of giving and sharing will encourage donations from BOMA members and friends for the needy families.

Continuing Committee Goals for 2004:

  1. Maintain course as “Share Your Holiday” is currently run, which is to provide funding for the Adopt A Family through the House of Grace.
  2. Work within the budget approved by the Board and continue to maintain a quality event for fund raising.
  3. Maintain prior year’s contribution level for families; increase only if the economy is able to support it.
  4. Broaden community recognition for the event and for BOMA’s participation in community services as a whole. Increase PR through SJ Business Journal/Local Newspapers.
  5. Research possibilities to bring to BOMA Members a better understanding of what the event is for and how the families have been helped by contributions through SYH.

Specific Goals:

  • 2004: Goal: Broaden recognition of the event through the Business Journal and local
    Newspapers.
  • Goal: Research the opportunity to draw on other non-profit organization for
    donations.
  • Goal: Create a broader variety of opportunities for monetary sponsorships.
  • 2005: Goal: Research possible “partnering” with another organization to increase
    the quantity of support for House of Grace.
  • Goal: Research other social services with similar needs in the local community
    that could be included in the SYH program.

Comments:
This year we will be looking at ways to bring the true feeling of Community Service to our membership and the importance of the “Share Your Holiday” program.

STRATEGIC LONG RANGE PLAN COMMITTEE GOALS

Mission:
The mission of the SLRP Committee is to gather strategic goal information from the Board, Administration, and Committees, and present the information in a report, with measurable outcomes.

Continuing Committee Goals:

  1. Reconvene every 6 months to measure the progress of the Board, Administration, and various committees towards their respective goals.
  2. Assess if BOMA Board and Administration have been supportive of each committee in achieving their outlined goals. If not, what can be done to redirect the outcome, or do the goals need to be reassessed to a more appropriate level?

Specific Goals for 2006:

  • Goal: Review 2004 BOMA-SV Mission Statement.
  • Goal: Have each committee/entity review 2004 SLRP goals and update.
  • Goal: Have each committee/entity review 2004 SLRP goals and summarize if objectives were obtained.
  • Goal: For goals not realized, have committee/entity submit evaluation on why goals
    were not met and next steps to correct.
  • Goal: Evaluate 2004 SLRP structure and format and revised as needed for 2006-2008
    cycle.

Comments:
This year, we are marking the beginning of this group as a permanent committee, with on-going review of everyone’s goals and measurement of their outcomes.

The committee plans to make the report available to all members on line through the BOMA-SV website.
